The Barry College Faculty of Legislation is dealing with strain from Florida Lawyer Normal James Uthmeier to incorporate a Turning Level USA campus chapter, alleging that refusal to take action might violate state legislation and college students’ rights to free expression.
Uthmeier posted a letter to Barry Legislation Dean Leticia Diaz on Thursday, which he shared on X, stating the varsity’s place in help of differing views “should happen within the context of mental humility, empathy and shared objective, fairly than ideological confrontation or partisan activism,” in response to protection on Law.com. Turning Level USA is a conservative nonprofit based by Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September and whose platform raised issues about racism and homophobia.
Barry is a non-public Catholic college that has an American Civil Liberties Union membership, which helps abortion rights, and an LGBTQ+ pupil group, which helps transgenderism. Uthmeier accuses the college of “blatant viewpoint discrimination” and of being in violation of its personal tips and Florida shopper safety legislation.
