Senior U.S. District Choose John E. “Jay” Steele, who served on the federal courtroom for the Center District of Florida, died July 14. And someday later, U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, a Republican from Sarasota, Florida, launched articles of impeachment towards him.
Steube stated in a July 16 press release he was introducing the articles of impeachment over a July 8 choice made by Steele.
The ruling, doubtless one of many final that Steele ever wrote, ordered the discharge of a Cuban nationwide being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending deportation. The Cuban nationwide had been convicted in a 2003 airplane hijacking. He had served a 22-year sentence and was apprehended after his launch.
Steube doubtless didn’t know that Steele had died when he started a public marketing campaign for Steele’s expulsion from the bench, based on a story by Law.com.
Steele, who died at age 77, had served greater than 35 years within the federal judiciary, totally on the Fort Myers Division bench of the Center District of Florida.
